Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Air the room after use
  • Keep the joints dry

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Bath resealing in Hordle, done in place

A reseal is a small job that makes a big difference. Fresh joints make the entire room look cleaner, and they keep water out. We are frequently asked to fix sealant that’s split or lifting and a messy previous reseal, across kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Hampshire.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we are there. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a couple of hours. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Prices and what affects them

Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The type of damage
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Hordle. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Is resealing worth it?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A flexing bath
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Your questions about bath resealing in Hordle

What happens next?

You will get a fixed quote back, plus dates. There’s no obligation to book.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Usually poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Hordle. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone won’t bond to old.

Can you quote from photos?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.
