What happens on the day

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take an hour or two. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We start by cleaning and drying the damage.
  2. Next we rebuild the missing piece to its original shape.
  3. It’s sanded flush.
  4. We match the colour to the glaze.
  5. We polish the repair to blend it in.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Open a window if you can

Advice

About our toilet chip repair in Kirkwall

We rebuild the damaged area and match it to the glaze, so the toilet stays in place. A crack that leaks can’t be fixed with a cosmetic repair, and we’ll tell you if that is what we find. Typical jobs include damage from dropped items and marks on the outside of the pan, across cisterns & lids, toilet pans and porcelain.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will sort it. Take care with heavy items and clean the outside of the pan gently.

What we can’t put right

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • A crack that leaks water
  • A crack through the bowl or trap
  • A loose pan or leaking seal (that’s a plumbing job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cisterns & lids
  • Vitreous china
  • Porcelain
  • Toilet pans
  • Pedestals

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Repairing versus replacing in Kirkwall

Replacing a toilet means a plumber and sometimes new flooring around the pan, and a matching cistern may no longer be made. A repair keeps the toilet you have. Our toilet chip repair starts from £95. We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What the surface is made of

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send photos for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • One picture of the whole toilet
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
