About our bath resealing in Penallt

Preparation is everything in a reseal: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Then the fresh sealant goes on, in a neat, continuous bead. We regularly repair wet rooms, baths and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are an untidy old seal and black mould in the sealant.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Penallt as everywhere else we work.

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, photos and access details and we will arrange it.

DIY kit or professional repair?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What bath resealing costs

You will know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed price

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • Natural light rather than flash

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes about two hours for a bath, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Penallt questions

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.

What happens next?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Do you come to Penallt?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to Penallt and the rest of Monmouthshire. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How long will it take?

Typically a couple of hours, plus curing time.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

What we cannot put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Hidden water damage
  • A flexing bath
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner

Run the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

Why it’s worth resealing in Penallt

Resealing costs very little. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Why us?

  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Work done at your home or business
