Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Let steam out after showers
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off

Avoid scraping the joints, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

Bath resealing in Potterne without replacing anything

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. Our technicians work on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most often call us about discoloured, yellow sealant and a messy previous reseal.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

FAQs for Potterne

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Do you come to Potterne?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Potterne. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How long does resealing take?

Most reseals take about two hours. It then needs time to cure.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Something is moving. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

When a repair is not the answer

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • A flexing bath
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

The process

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes a couple of hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
