Bath resealing for Racks homes

Bath resealing in Racks, done in place

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Our repair technicians work on basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and the jobs we see most are gaps by the taps and leaks at the edges.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

When a repair is not the answer

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Hidden water damage
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Air the room after use
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing so mould struggles to take hold.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Resealing in Racks: why it matters

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Prices and what affects them

We charge the same across the UK, including Racks. What changes the price is:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The colour and finish to match

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath or shower
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take about two hours for a bath, tidy-up included.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Open a window if you can

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.
