Is resealing worth it?

Resealing is a small job. Leaving split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and that damage costs much more to fix. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take around two hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

How to prepare

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What affects the price in Redcar

We price every job individually. What matters most is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Upload a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your TS10 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

When we would advise against a repair

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Hidden water damage
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

When to call us in Redcar

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • An untidy old seal
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
