Questions from Scales
What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?
If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Do you hold any accreditations?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes, frequently. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.
When can you do it?
It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.
How much does bath resealing cost in Scales?
We give a fixed price based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item with your LA12 postcode.
Do you cover Scales?
We do. Technicians travel to Scales from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.
Bath resealing in Scales without replacing anything
We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. Our repair technicians work on kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are a messy previous reseal and mould you can’t clean out.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Scales as everywhere else we work.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.
Why reseal now?
Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
Why Scales clients choose us
- Every repair guaranteed for a year
- Work done at your home or business

Prices and what affects them
A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:
- Access to the area
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
- The material and finish
Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
Send pictures for a quote
Two or three clear pictures are typically enough. Try to include:
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
- What it’s made of, if you know
For a price in Scales, the easiest route is pictures: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.
Work for landlords and builders
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.
We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.
What a repair cannot fix
Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- Movement in the bath or tray
- Very wide gaps that need a trim
- Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
What we work on
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen worktops & sinks
- Basins & vanity units
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Baths
How to look after the repair
How the surface is treated afterwards matters:
- Reseal when black spots will not clean off
- Keep the joints dry
- Clean the sealant gently and regularly
- Store bottles on a shelf
Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, usually around 24 hours.
Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.
What we do, step by step
The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes around two hours. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.
- We cut out all of the old sealant.
- Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
- We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
- We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking or access
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
