When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Hollow or loose tiles

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

How we handle bath resealing in St Marys

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours. We work on kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people contact us are water getting behind the bath or tray and silicone smeared on tiles.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Use the extractor fan

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use to keep mould away.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Common questions in St Marys

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How long does resealing take?

Typically a couple of hours, plus curing time.

What information do you need?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Normally about a day later. We’ll tell you the exact time.

Are there extra charges for St Marys?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Why it’s worth resealing in St Marys

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

How we price bath resealing

We charge the same across the UK, including St Marys. The price reflects:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage
  • What the surface is made of

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for St Marys. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear pictures are generally enough. It helps if you send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Email us photos of the damage and one of the whole item, with your DD3 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Plan for a couple of hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
