How we handle bath resealing in Stourscombe

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and a new seal stops it. We regularly repair wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are mould you can’t clean out and unsealed corners.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Resealing in Stourscombe: why it matters

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Stourscombe: your questions answered

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

How long does a reseal take?

Most reseals take about two hours. Leave it to cure before use.

How long does silicone take to cure?

You’ll get the curing time from us, typically around a day.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Something is moving. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Air the room after use

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

What we’re called out for in Stourscombe

No sealant lasts for ever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould loves, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Damp near the bath
  • Gaps by the taps

Prices and what affects them

We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What the surface is made of
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The colour and finish to match

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from pictures

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job normally takes around two hours. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.
