Need bath resealing in Tregeseal?

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Bath resealing in Tregeseal without replacing anything

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. We work on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and people most frequently call us about unsealed corners and old sealant that looks dirty.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a couple of hours.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Why it’s worth resealing in Tregeseal

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

What bath resealing costs

We don’t charge extra for travel to Tregeseal. The price depends on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The colour and finish to match
  • What kind of damage it is

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Tregeseal. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

Phone pictures are fine. Make sure they show:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Questions from Tregeseal

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Usually poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Generally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Cornwall.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

No, we never seal over old silicone. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Signs you need bath resealing in Tregeseal

No sealant lasts for ever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould loves, and the joint moves slightly every time the bath is filled.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Leaks at the edges
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Sealant that’s split or lifting

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • What preparation is included
  • How long it needs to cure
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show

Our hiring checklist

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

What we cannot put right

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Hidden water damage
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
