Bath repair at your home in B77

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We regularly repair whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and acrylic, and common reasons people get in touch are chips on the rim or sides and chips under the taps.

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Cost

Our bath repair starts from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

What we are called out for in B77

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

Repairing versus replacing

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: taking out the old one, plumbing, tiling, a panel and redecorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What aftercare is recommended

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.
