Bath repair across BR6: what to expect

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. We work on acrylic, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel, and people most frequently call us about scratches you can feel with a fingernail and rusty patches near the plughole.

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which generally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

What it costs in BR6

Near you in Broom Hill

Typical jobs here are in homes near Church of All Saints, The Priory School and Harris Academy Orpington and the streets around them. Nearby too are Jubilee Country Park (1.8 miles north-west), Perry Hall Primary School (within half a mile north-west) and The Cricketers pub (under half a mile north-east). Broom Hill’s nearest station is Orpington station, about 0.6 miles south-west of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find The Mall (3.8 miles north-west) and Orpington Hospital (1.3 miles south). For a walk, there’s Summer Hill and The Warren.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • How to look after the finish
  • If travel is included in the price
  • What prep work is covered

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

What we are called out for in BR6

Baths take more knocks than people expect: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Chips caused by builders

When a repair is not the answer

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Your questions about bath repair in BR6

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send photos.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

How invisible is a bath repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

How do I get a price for bath repair in BR6?

Prices start from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.
