How bath repair works in HG2
A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, with the colour mixed on site. Our technicians work on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and people most often call us about hairline or through cracks in acrylic and damage beneath the taps.
We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a morning or an afternoon. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.
- We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
- The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
- The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
- We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
- We leave it to cure; you can normally use the bath the day after.
Cost
Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.
Why book with us
- Usually one visit, start to finish
- Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
- Colour mixed on the day to match
- We leave the room as we found it

Local landmarks in Starbeck
Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Starbeck Community Primary School, Harrogate High School and The Henry Peacock pub, among other places. You’ll also find St Andrew's Church (within half a mile north-east), The Stray (1.2 miles south-west) and The Grove Academy (1.3 miles west). There is a railway station in Starbeck itself: Starbeck station. Other landmarks nearby include Harrogate District Hospital (0.7 miles south-west) and Knaresborough (2.6 miles east).
Common problems we fix in HG2
Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.
Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:
- A hole punched through by something heavy
- Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
- Rust by the waste and overflow
- Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
Can I fix it myself?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
Repair or replace?
A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes.
What your quote should include
- How long the guarantee is and what it covers
- How to look after the finish
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.
How to look after the repair
Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Rinse it down after each bath
- Have new chips seen to early
- Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
- Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine.
Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.
HG2 questions
Is a bath repair durable?
Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It carries our one-year guarantee.
How invisible is a bath repair?
The goal is a repair that blends in. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference, and we will tell you what to expect.
Can tenants book a repair?
Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.
Can landlords book you?
Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners.
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
