How bath repair works in HP22

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes is repaired in place. Nothing is unplumbed, the tiles are not touched, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. Common call-outs are for a cracked acrylic bath and holes from dropped items, in pressed steel enamel, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths.

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow two to three hours for most chips from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the day after.

Cost

Our bath repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Work for landlords and builders

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in HP22 as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

When you take your photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One picture of the entire bath

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath without abrasive products.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Common questions in HP22

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

How long before I can use the bath?

Typically within a day, though it depends on what we have done.

What information do you need?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.
