Bath repair across M35: what to expect
We see every kind of bath damage: dropped-bottle chips, plughole rust, acrylic cracks and impact holes. Each is repaired in place. Typical jobs include rust by the waste and overflow and scuffs and scratches in the surface, on whirlpool & spa baths, pressed steel enamel and acrylic.
There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a few hours, depending on the damage, tidy-up included.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.
What you will pay
Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
Why choose Surface Doctor
- No need to remove anything
- Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
- Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
- Fixed prices from your pictures
How to get a price
Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Prices and what affects them
Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
- What the surface is made of
- How hard the colour is to match
- Access to the area
It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.
How to get a fixed price
Two or three clear pictures are typically enough. It helps if you send:
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- A photo taken from further back
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.
Repair or replace?
Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. A repair keeps it in place.
Questions to ask before booking
- Who will actually do the work
- How the room is protected while they work
- What aftercare is recommended
- What the guarantee covers, and for how long
DIY kit or professional repair?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.
What a repair cannot fix
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
- Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
Questions from M35
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.
How long before I can use the bath?
Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.
Will it make a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.
How do I book?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.
Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?
Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
When can you do it?
We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.
