Bath repair at your home in M11

We have repaired just about every kind of bath damage: chips from dropped bottles, rust round the plughole, cracks in acrylic and holes from falling tools. Each is repaired in place. Typical jobs include chips along the edge of the bath and rust spots around the plughole, on pressed steel enamel, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths.

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for a few hours, depending on the damage. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Cost

Our bath repair starts from £95. We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for M11. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Repairing versus replacing

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who will actually do the work
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • What prep work is covered

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Common questions in M11

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.

How do I book?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
