How bath repair works in M43

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Our technicians work on acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are chips along the edge of the bath and impact holes in acrylic.

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

Repairing versus replacing

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Tameside and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

If you manage property in M43, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

M43: your questions answered

How long before I can use the bath?

Usually the next day. We will tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

Are there extra charges for M43?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Can tenants book a repair?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

How much does bath repair cost in M43?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item and your postcode.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.
