Our bath repair service in PL19
We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. You can generally use the bath the day after. We regularly repair acrylic, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are chips along the edge of the bath and a cracked acrylic bath.
From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.
- We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
- Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
- The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
- The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
- Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.
Pricing in PL19
Our bath repair starts from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
Why choose Surface Doctor
- One visit for most repairs
- Free fixed quotes from pictures
- One-year guarantee on every repair
- Nothing taken out or refitted
Ask for a price
Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.
Near you in Tavistock
Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Tavistock College, Tavistock College and Church of St Eustachius, among other places. Also close by are Market Inn (within half a mile south) and St Rumon's Church of England (VC) Infants School (less than half a mile north-east). The nearest railway station is Gunnislake station, roughly 3.9 miles south-west of the centre. Nearby you will also find Tavistock Hospital (under half a mile west) and Tavistock Museum (less than half a mile north-east). Not far away are Berra Tor.
Repairs by material
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.
Acrylic
An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
How to look after the repair
How the surface is treated afterwards matters:
- Have new chips seen to early
- Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
- Rinse it down after each bath
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.
Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.
Prices and what affects them
Repairs from £95. There is no area surcharge for PL19. The price reflects:
- What kind of damage it is
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- What the surface is made of
- Access to the area
Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
How to get a fixed quote
It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll say immediately if a repair is the right fix.
Why repair rather than replace?
Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in a single visit.
What your quote should include
- What preparation is included
- Whether the colour is mixed to match
- How the room is protected while they work
- A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
Honest limits
Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:
- A steel bath rusted through
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
- A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
Questions from PL19
Can you repair several things at once?
Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.
Can pets and children be at home?
We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.
How long does the repair take to cure?
Most baths can be used the day after. We will tell you the exact curing time when we finish.
Is a bath repair permanent?
Done properly, a repair lasts for years, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps it last.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.
Will you leave a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.
Does someone need to be in?
Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.
