Bath repair across SE25: what to expect
Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We are frequently asked to fix scuffs and scratches in the surface and impact holes in acrylic, on pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.
Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. It normally takes a few hours.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- We match both the colour and the shine.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the next day.
What you’ll pay
Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
Why choose Surface Doctor
- Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
- Normally one visit, start to finish
- A year’s guarantee on all work
- One price list for the entire UK
How to get a price
A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.
Local landmarks in Selhurst
Typical jobs here are in homes near The Albion pub, St Mark's Church of England Primary Academy and Church of St Mark, among other places. Nearby too are South Norwood Recreation Ground (within half a mile south-west) and Harris Academy South Norwood (under half a mile north-west). Selhurst has its own railway station: Norwood Junction station. Further afield, we also cover the area around Whitgift Centre (2 miles south-west) and Croydon University Hospital (1.7 miles south-west). Not far away are Duppas Hill and Dulwich Upper Wood.
- Parks and local facilities nearby include Addiscombe (1.3 miles south)
Repair or replace?
A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is.
What your quote should include
- Whether a trained technician does the job
- A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
- What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
- How the room is protected while they work
What bath repair costs
Prices start from £95. We price every job individually. The main factors are:
- How easy the damage is to reach
- How much damage there is
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- The material
There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.
How to get a fixed price
It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Natural light rather than flash
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
Most customers in SE25 get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.
How to look after the repair
Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:
- Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
- Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.
Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
How the damage happens
The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
- Impact holes in acrylic
- Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
- Rust spots around the plughole
