How bath repair works in SY2

Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Typical jobs include holes from dropped items and chips caused by builders, in roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Landlord and trade work in SY2

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in SY2 as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Signs you need bath repair

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Legs that are not adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the base flex until it cracks.

People generally call us when they notice something like this:

  • A chipped rim or side
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • A cracked acrylic bath
