How we handle shower tray repair in East Dean
A cracked or chipped shower tray doesn’t always need replacing. If it’s solid underneath, it can generally be repaired in place, which is far less work than a replacement. Whether it’s chips or cracks by the plughole and a cracked shower tray, we can normally put it right.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

When we’d advise against a repair
Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:
- A tray that flexes because it was never properly supported
- Leaks from the waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Multiple cracks across the tray
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Repair or replace: which is better?
A new shower tray frequently means a new enclosure fitting, new tiling and new sealant. Repairing it avoids all of that and costs far less. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

How to look after the repair
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:
- Use the extractor fan
- Clean with washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
- Check the seal every few months
Keep scourers and harsh chemicals off the tray. A soft cloth and washing-up liquid do the job.
Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water can get through to the floor and walls, and the damage below is not visible.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

When to call us in East Dean
Trays crack mainly because they move: without a solid, level base underneath, it flexes each time someone stands on it. Chips usually come from dropped bottles.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Scratches from cleaning or grit
- Chips on the edges
- A tray that flexes
- Cracks running from the waste

What we do, step by step
Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.
- We make sure the tray does not flex and look for the cause of any crack.
- The damaged area, or the entire tray, is cleaned and prepared.
- We fill and strengthen any chips or cracks and sand them smooth.
- The repair is colour matched, or the whole tray gets a new finish.
- Once cured, usually by the following day, you can use the shower.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area around the damage
- Have a window or extractor fan available
- Make sure the area is dry

Questions from East Dean
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Typically, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.
How soon can you come?
It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.
Is a cracked tray repairable?
In most cases. If the tray moves, the support needs fixing first.
Is there a guarantee?
All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
Can I keep using a cracked tray?
It’s best to stop using it until it’s checked, because water may be getting underneath.

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.
What happens after I send pictures?
We come back with a fixed price. There is no obligation to book.
Are you accredited?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic trays are lighter and slightly flexible, so good support matters. We repair cracks and scratches.
Enamelled steel
Enamelled steel trays behave like steel baths. Chips can rust if they’re left, so early repairs help.
