Trusted shower tray repair in Grays

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a tray usually means refitting the screen, retiling and resealing. Repairing it avoids all of that. Prices start from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Grays

Shower tray repair in Grays without replacing anything

You do not always need a new tray. If it’s solid underneath, it can generally be repaired in place, which is far less work than a replacement. Our technicians work on acrylic, stone resin and enamelled steel, and people most often call us about damage around the waste and scuffs and light scratches.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How we price shower tray repair

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage
  • How much damage there is

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

You can generally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Natural light rather than flash

Most clients in Grays get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We protect the floor and the enclosure.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. We clean and key the tray, then repair the damage.
  4. We refinish the surface to match the tray.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.

How to prepare

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic trays are lighter and slightly flexible, so a firm base is essential. We repair cracks and scratches.

Ceramic

Ceramic gives a hard, high-gloss surface. Impacts can chip or crack them, and we match the gloss when we repair them.

When to call us in Grays

The waste is a common starting point for cracks, where the tray is cut and the fitting is tightened.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • Chips caused during fitting
  • A tray that looks tired however much you clean it
  • Scuffs and light scratches
  • A tray that flexes

What to look for in a quote

  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • What prep work is covered
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • What happens if they find more damage

Questions from Grays

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

What happens next?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Grays included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Can you resurface a whole tray?

Yes. The entire tray can be resurfaced without removing it.

Is it OK to use a cracked tray?

It’s best to stop using it until it’s checked, because water may be getting underneath.

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated
  • Keep heavy bottles on a shelf
  • Get a moving tray checked
  • Rinse away soap after showering

Store heavy bottles on a shelf, not on the tray, to avoid chips.

Don’t keep using a cracked tray. Water can get through to the floor and walls, and the damage below is not visible.

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Water damage to the floor beneath the tray
  • A tray that moves underfoot
  • Trays cracked in several places

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron
  • Acrylic
  • Enamelled steel
  • Ceramic
  • Stone resin
