Trusted shower tray repair in St Pauls

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

How we handle shower tray repair in St Pauls

Stone resin, acrylic and ceramic trays can all be repaired, and worn trays can be resurfaced completely. Nothing is taken out, so the screen and tiling stay as they are. We work on acrylic, stone resin and cast iron, and people most often call us about edge chips from dropped bottles and a tray that flexes.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Give the tray a quick rinse after use
  • Avoid strong descalers and bleach
  • Don’t stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Get a moving tray checked

Check the silicone around the tray every few months, and replace it when it splits or goes black.

Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water may be getting under the tray, and the damage below isn’t visible.

The process

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. First we check the tray is solid and work out why any crack happened.
  2. Next we clean and prepare the tray.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We match the colour, or refinish the full tray.
  5. Once cured, typically by the day after, you can use the shower.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Getting a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire shower tray, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Our hiring checklist

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in St Pauls use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it generally costs far less than a refit.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A tray that flexes because it was never properly supported
  • Leaking waste fittings
  • A tray broken in more than one place

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Different materials, different repairs

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. A flat, solid base is essential, and we match repairs to the surface finish.

Enamelled steel

Steel trays have an enamel surface like a steel bath. Exposed metal can rust, so early repairs help.

Should you replace it?

The tray itself may not cost much, but the work around it does: taking out the enclosure, tiling and resealing. A repair is one visit. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
