Sink repair in Radyr, done in place

A chipped basin is one of the most noticeable bits of damage in a bathroom. We fill, shape and polish the damage so it blends into the glaze. Typical jobs include an antique basin with chips and a chipped basin edge, in Belfast and butler sinks, vanity unit basins and ceramic & vitreous china basins.

Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First, we check the basin is firm and dry.
  2. The area is degreased and keyed.
  3. Filler is built up and sanded flush.
  4. We match the colour and the gloss.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Open a window if you can

What your basin is made of matters

Vitreous china

Most basins are vitreous china with a hard, glossy glaze. The gloss is what makes a repair blend in, so we polish the repair to suit.

Composite and resin

Many vanity units have resin or composite basins. They repair well, with colour mixed on site.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the basin is cracked right through and leaking, replacement is generally the answer. For chips, surface cracks and crazing, a repair is usually best. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What you get with us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A basin coming away from the wall (that needs refixing)
  • A crack that leaks right through the basin
  • Leaks from the fittings

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Vanity unit basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Antique & period basins
  • Enamelled basins
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Use gentle cleaners
  • Get chips repaired early
  • Use a heat mat for hair tools
  • Do not stand heavy bottles on the edge

Wipe the basin over after use, and steer clear of harsh chemicals.

A crack near the taps can spread, so get it looked at early. If it’s leaking, turn off the water to the basin until it’s checked.

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Radyr, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we’ll price them together.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How much damage there is

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

You can typically get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.
