Repairing versus replacing in Radyr

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Why Radyr customers choose us

  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Bath re-enamelling in Radyr, done in place

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We’re frequently asked to fix a coating lifting around the plughole and lots of chips and rust spots, on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Cardiff.

What we do, step by step

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Advice

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. There is no area surcharge for Radyr. What changes the price is:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How much damage there is
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from photos

Phone photos are fine. Make sure they show:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Questions from Radyr

Do you work in Radyr?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Radyr. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Cardiff.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Which areas do you work in?

The entire UK, including all of Cardiff. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

When we would advise against a repair

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Landlord and trade work in Radyr

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
