Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Abune-the-Hill. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

You can normally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Send us photos of the damage and one of the whole item, with your KW17 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Toilet chip repair at your home in Abune-the-Hill

Leaking cracks need the toilet replacing, and we will tell you if that’s what we find. We rebuild the damaged area and match it to the glaze, so you don’t need a plumber or a new toilet. Whether it’s chips on the pan or rim and pieces knocked off during fitting, we can normally put it right, on porcelain, cisterns & lids and pedestals alike.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee. Take care with heavy items and clean the outside of the pan gently.

How it works

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes an hour or two. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First the damaged area is cleaned and dried.
  2. Next we rebuild the missing piece to its original shape.
  3. It’s sanded flush.
  4. The glaze is colour matched and finished.
  5. The repair is polished so it blends in.

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Ensure the area is dry

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Advice

When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • A crack that leaks water
  • A crack through the bowl or trap
  • A loose pan or leaking seal (that’s a plumbing job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Vitreous china
  • Cisterns & lids
  • Toilet pans
  • Porcelain
  • Pedestals

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Repairing versus replacing in Abune-the-Hill

Replacing a toilet means a plumber and sometimes new flooring around the pan, and a matching cistern may no longer be made. Repairing the chip leaves it in place. Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.
