You do not need a new worktop because of one mark. The damage is filled and refinished to blend into the surface around it. Whether it’s chips caused during installation and gouges in the surface, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Why repair rather than replace?

Stone and quartz tops are templated and cut to fit, so replacing one section is a big job. A repair takes a few hours. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Laminate

A laminate worktop is a thin decorative layer on a board. Damage is filled and the pattern painted in by hand.

Quartz

Quartz is hard, but its edges are brittle. We fill chips with a tinted resin and polish them.

How to compare quotes

Common questions in Kames

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

How much does worktop repair cost in Kames?

Repairs from £95. We give a fixed price from your photos. Send a close-up and a picture of the whole item with your PA21 postcode.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Do you cover Kames?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Kames and the rest of Argyll and Bute. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

What we do, step by step

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a morning or an afternoon.

  1. The area around the damage is protected.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are built up by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

How to look after the repair

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Keep a trivet by the hob
  • Don’t leave spills to soak in

Let the repair cure for the time we give you before putting anything heavy or hot on it. After that, trivets and chopping boards are your best protection.

Daily use can make burns and chips worse particularly around the sink. Repairing it sooner keeps the job smaller.

When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Through cracks in stone that is moving
  • Water-swollen laminate
  • A top that moves on its units

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.
