Worktop repair for Polwarth homes

How we handle worktop repair in Polwarth

A new worktop rarely matches the old one, particularly where several lengths join. Repairing the damage keeps your kitchen as it is. We are often asked to fix chips on edges and corners and a damaged sink edge, across granite & marble, solid surface (such as Corian) and solid wood.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Edinburgh.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Keep wood oiled
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners
  • Don’t let water sit on joints
  • Watch the edges with heavy pans

Hot pans should always go on a trivet. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.

Daily use can make burns and chips worse particularly around the sink. Repairing it sooner keeps the job smaller.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed
  • Water-swollen laminate
  • Through cracks in stone that is moving

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Laminate
  • Granite & marble
  • Quartz
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Solid wood

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Quartz

Quartz is hard, but its edges are brittle. We fill chips with a tinted resin and polish them to the worktop’s finish.

Laminate

Laminate is a printed surface bonded to a board. We fill damage and paint in the pattern by hand.

Questions from Polwarth

Can a scorch mark be fixed?

Frequently, yes. The burn is cut back, filled and patterned to match.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can you repair a chipped quartz worktop?

Yes. We repair quartz chips regularly, filled and polished to match.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What affects the price in Polwarth

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Polwarth. What changes the price is:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Access to the area
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How many areas need work

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone photos are fine. Ensure they show:

  • Any details about the material
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Polwarth

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. The area is cleaned and the edges of the damage prepared.
  3. A filler that suits the material goes in, and missing edges are rebuilt.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. We seal or finish the surface to suit the worktop.

How to prepare

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or call us. We’ll say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Related advice

Do you need worktop repair in Polwarth?

Most worktop damage takes a second: a hot pan set straight down, or a heavy pan catching the edge. Scratches build up more slowly, from knives and grit.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Snagging damage in a new kitchen
  • Chips on edges and corners
  • Scratches and knife marks
  • Chips near the sink

Choosing a repair company

Repair or replace: which is better?

Even a single new length of worktop means templating, cutting and refitting the sink and hob. A repair takes a few hours and leaves everything in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.
