How we handle bath re-enamelling in Bruera

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is typically the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We’re often asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a coloured bath you want in white, in acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What kind of damage it is
  • What the surface is made of

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Most clients in Bruera get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Bruera: your questions answered

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Bruera?

Prices start from £350. We give a fixed price from your photos. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item with your CH3 postcode.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What we do, step by step

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Related advice

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Bruera

Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use dull the surface, normally first under the taps and around the waste.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off

What your quote should include

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

How to compare quotes

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
