Bath re-enamelling near Cattedown

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Cattedown

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We work on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays, and people most often call us about an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes most of the day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.

When to call us in Cattedown

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

Before you book anyone

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

How to compare quotes

Cattedown: your questions answered

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Cattedown.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Do you come to Cattedown?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Cattedown and the rest of Plymouth. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

What affects the price in Cattedown

Prices start from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Cattedown. The price reflects:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The material

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear photos are usually enough. Try to include:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A photo taken from further back

Most clients in Cattedown get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
