Bath re-enamelling near Chitty

Bath re-enamelling in Chitty without replacing anything

We do not move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the following day. If you’re dealing with worn patches where water runs and sits and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, we can generally put it right.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will come back.

When to call us in Chitty

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

The things clients typically mention when they call are:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days

10 questions to ask before booking

How the visit works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes the best part of a day, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Chitty: your questions answered

What information do you need?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Chitty.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

How long is the bath unusable?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

When a repair is not the answer

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Chitty as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

Repairing versus replacing in Chitty

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
