Cogan questions

Do you cover the whole of Cardiff?

Across the UK, so Cogan is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.

What information do you need?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Cogan

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Our repair technicians work on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and people most frequently call us about an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and an outdated colour you’d like to change.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Cogan and across Cardiff.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

When to call us in Cogan

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is normally as strong as ever.

Customers generally contact us about:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

Questions to ask before booking

  • How to look after the finish
  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What preparation is included

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We look at:

  • The material
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Re-enamelling takes one technician and generally one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why book with us

The process

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to most of the day.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
