Bath re-enamelling in Derry Downs, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Whether it’s thin, worn enamel in places and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can usually put it right.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Derry Downs as everywhere else we work.

What we do, step by step

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job normally takes a full day. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

If you manage property in Derry Downs, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we will come back with a combined price.

Repair or replace in Derry Downs?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Can landlords book you?

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Derry Downs?

Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The material and finish
  • Doing more than one item at once

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A picture taken from further back

Most clients in Derry Downs get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
