Trusted bath re-enamelling in Dittisham

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Dittisham

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and common reasons people get in touch are several chips and rust patches and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Before and after: an old basin refinished to bright white

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Previous coatings can fail too, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

People normally call us when they notice something like this:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • Several chips and rust patches

When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Dittisham: your questions answered

Will the new finish last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send pictures.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the entire bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work. It fades as everything cures.

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We look at:

  • The type of damage
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Unusual colours or finishes

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed price

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

The process

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take the best part of a day, tidy-up included.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Ask for a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.
