Four Lane Ends questions

What happens after I send pictures?

You will get a fixed quote back, usually with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

How long is the bath unusable?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the next day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.

When a repair is not the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

How to compare quotes

DIY kit or professional repair?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Four Lane Ends. What changes the price is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any details about the material
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Natural light rather than flash

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What happens on the day

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a full day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
