Bath re-enamelling in Furnace Wood

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

About our bath re-enamelling in Furnace Wood

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. We work on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are wear marks under the taps and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Furnace Wood questions

How long will the bath be out of use?

One day for most baths and can be used the day after. We will confirm timings when we quote.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send pictures.

Do you cover the entire of West Sussex?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Furnace Wood. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Repairing versus replacing in Furnace Wood

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why us?

  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

How it works

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Allow the best part of a day from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know about parking or access

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, and only the surface is worn. The body of the bath is normally perfectly sound.

Clients generally contact us about:

  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

  • If travel is included in the price
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • How the colour is matched

Our hiring checklist

DIY kit or professional repair?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

  • Basins & shower trays

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.
