About our bath re-enamelling in Gabalfa
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Whether it’s a coloured bath you want in white and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.
Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Repairs by material
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
Do you need bath re-enamelling in Gabalfa?
A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.
It’s worth getting a quote if you see:
- Worn patches where water runs and sits
- Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- A bath in a colour that no longer suits
Questions to ask before you book
- How your room will be protected
- If travel is included in the price
- What happens if they find more damage
- How long it needs to cure
Landlords, agents and businesses in Gabalfa
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
If you manage property in Gabalfa, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.
Questions from Gabalfa
What does bath re-enamelling cost?
Prices start from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.
Will the new finish last?
Care for it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.
Will you leave a mess?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.
Are there extra charges for Gabalfa?
We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.
Will the price change on the day?
If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.
Can pets and children be at home?
Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.
The process
Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow a full day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.
How to prepare
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

When a repair is not the answer
We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- A metal bath with a through crack
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
What we work on
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Acrylic baths
Repair or replace: which is better?
Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.
Why us?
- A fixed quote before you book
- Every repair guaranteed for a year
- Rooms protected and left tidy
- Most jobs done in one visit

Looking after it afterwards
Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:
- Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.
Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.
