Gayfield: your questions answered
Do you resurface freestanding baths?
Yes. We can do the inside and outside.
Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?
Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.
Will the bath be moved?
No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.
Do you hold any accreditations?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.
Are there extra charges for Gayfield?
We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.
Is there a smell?
A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Bath re-enamelling at your home in Gayfield
If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our technicians work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a coloured bath you want in white and worn patches where water runs and sits.
You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

How to look after the repair
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:
- Respect the curing time we give you
- Avoid suction-cup mats
- Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
What else we do in Gayfield
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Roll-top and period baths
Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Landlord and trade work in Gayfield
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
For anyone letting property in or around Gayfield, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we’ll price them together.
When a repair isn’t the answer
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Holes rusted through the metal
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

What we do, step by step
We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. Most visits take the best part of a day, and the room is left clean and tidy.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
- The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.
How to prepare
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
- Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Related advice
Should you replace it?
There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.
Why Gayfield customers choose us
- One visit for most repairs
- A fixed quote before booking
- We come to you, anywhere in the UK
- Colour mixed on the day to match
Read our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.
DIY kit or professional repair?
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
