About our bath re-enamelling in Gilberries

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We are frequently asked to fix a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a roll-top that’s seen better days, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

How the visit works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a full day.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the following day.

How to prepare

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Gilberries: your questions answered

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside if you’d like.

Do you come to Gilberries?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Gilberries. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How long is the bath unusable?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.

What we cannot put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in Gilberries

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

What we’re called out for in Gilberries

Previous coatings can fail too, lifting by the plughole or blistering. We strip what’s failing and start again.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

Before you book anyone

  • What prep work is covered
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show

Choosing a repair company

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Gilberries. What changes the price is:

  • How many areas need work
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The type of damage
  • What the surface is made of

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just ensure we can see:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can price the job without visiting.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and typically one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
