Bath re-enamelling in Gors, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We regularly repair acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a coating lifting around the plughole and thin, worn enamel in places.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why Gors customers choose us

  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • One visit for most repairs

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Gors

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is matched
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers

How to compare quotes

How the visit works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to a full day, tidy-up included.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Getting a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.
