Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Grayrigg

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are worn patches where water runs and sits and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Repair or replace in Grayrigg?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

Questions from Grayrigg

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How long is the bath unusable?

Generally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. We give a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item with your LA8 postcode.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Advice

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Grayrigg?

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That’s the point where re-enamelling makes sense.
