Bath re-enamelling for Howgill homes

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Howgill

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Typical jobs include an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and wear marks under the taps, in acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • The material and finish
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How easy the damage is to reach

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Something in shot to show the size

Upload photos of the damage and one of the entire item, with your LA10 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Why us?

How the visit works

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job generally takes the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the following day.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.
