How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How hard the colour is to match

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Something in shot to show the size

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Great Clifton

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Our technicians work on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are worn patches where water runs and sits and a roll-top that’s seen better days.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will sort it.

Common questions in Great Clifton

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Cumbria, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job typically takes the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
