After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. Grimness questions

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote. You are under no obligation.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Grimness?

Resurfacing from £350. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and normally a day. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why Grimness clients choose us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

See our pricing and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

What happens on the day

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take most of the day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

How to prepare

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.
