Trusted bath re-enamelling in Hoar Cross

Bath re-enamelling in Hoar Cross without replacing anything

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is normally the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Common call-outs are for an old resurfacing that’s failing and a roll-top that’s seen better days, on pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Hoar Cross as everywhere else we work.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Honest limits

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Hoar Cross

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

How it works

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Open a window if you can
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Advice

How to care for the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Hoar Cross

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.

People typically call us after spotting something like this:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
