About our bath re-enamelling in Hurlet

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. We’re often asked to fix thin, worn enamel in places and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, in acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we will sort it.

What we do, step by step

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. Allow most of the day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Advice

When a repair is not the answer

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Why Hurlet clients choose us

  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Same prices wherever you are

Hurlet questions

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Hurlet?

Prices start from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Do you work in Hurlet?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Hurlet and the rest of Glasgow. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

What we’re called out for in Hurlet

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

How to compare quotes

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area
  • What the surface is made of

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
