Bath re-enamelling for Ilford homes

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Ilford

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we do not cut corners on it. Whether it’s a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and staining under the taps and around the waste, we can typically put it right, on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

FAQs for Ilford

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Ilford?

Resurfacing from £350. Every job gets a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item with your IG1 postcode.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

What do you need from me?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Repairing versus replacing in Ilford

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

When we would advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

How it works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes a full day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Advice

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
