About our bath re-enamelling in Kennington

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and an outdated colour you’d like to change.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

What a repair can’t fix

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Kennington

  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Have chips seen to early

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Kennington: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Do you work in Kennington?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to Kennington from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Kennington

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll handle the rest.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.
