Bath re-enamelling in Lady Hall without replacing anything

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Whether it’s a coloured bath you want in white and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, we can help.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Repairing versus replacing in Lady Hall

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

When to call us in Lady Hall

Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, generally first under the taps and around the waste.

Look out for these signs:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days

Before you book anyone

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What prep work is covered
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether the price covers travel

10 questions to ask before booking

Landlord and trade work in Lady Hall

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

When we would advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

Questions from Lady Hall

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. Allow most of the day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Ensure the area is dry

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
