About our bath re-enamelling in Lilstock

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and people most frequently call us about staining under the taps and around the waste and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Lilstock and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Repair dripping taps early

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Lilstock: your questions answered

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Will the bath be moved?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. You are under no obligation.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What we are called out for in Lilstock

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Clients usually contact us about:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

How to compare quotes

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Lilstock. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why book with us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Fixed prices from your pictures

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
